Join us for a scenic drive along some wonderful twisty roads out in Berks, Schuylkill, and Carbon counties in Pennsylvania.  We'll get you warmed up and then stop for a bit of lunch, BBQ style.  Oh, and did I mention, you'll get to enjoy some of the BEST ice cream you'll ever find for dessert?  After that the fun continues, leading to our second stop, an overlook of the quaint town of Jim Thorpe, PA.  Finally, we'll descend the mountain and invade the town.  Jim Thorpe offers something for everyone.  Stay for the afternoon/evening, or make a weekend out of it.  There are several little bed & breakfasts in town.  For more info about what to see and do in Jim Thorpe, see the links below.

Event Details:

  • Date: September 19. 2009 (rain date: September 26, 2009)
  • Time: Meet no later than 9:30am Driver's meeting at 9:55am. Depart 10:00am.
  • Starting Location: Cracker Barrel      21 Industrial Drive Hamburg, PA

What to Bring:

  • Full tank of gas
  • 2-way radio(s)
  • Camera
  • Picnic lunch (unless you are pre-paid for the optional BBQ lunch)
  • Folding chair for lunch

What to Expect:

  • Some nice twisty mountain roads.
  • Stop #1: BBQ/Picnic lunch stop.  Approx. 1.5 hours. 
  • Stop #2:  Great view overlooking Jim Thorpe.  Approx. 15-20 minutes.
  • Final destinaton: Jim Thorpe.  Possible things to do:  Mauch Chunk museum, antique shops, train museum, model RR display, train rides, and much more.
